Sweating botox; Hyperhidrosis is a medical practice for the condition also known as “excessive sweating.” Excessive sweating occurs due to overactivity of sweat glands. Sweat glands are structures in the skin that secrete sweat, and sweating is an important structure as it is part of thermoregulation to maintain normal body temperature. In most cases, excessive sweating has no underlying medical cause and is therefore referred to as “primary hyperhidrosis.” Hyperhidrosis can affect any part of the body, but it usually appears on the scalp, forehead, armpits, palms, and soles. The severity can range from mild to very severe, which weakens and impairs the person’s ability to function at work or in activities of daily living. Symptoms can be continuous and daily or periodic. Botox for sweating treatment provides effective Botulinum toxin injections to help reduce excessive sweating. This procedure is also known as sweat botox treatment. Botulinum toxin is FDA-approved to treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating when topical medications don’t work well enough. Botulinum toxin is injected into the affected areas to help control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Severe sweating occurs when the sweat glands do not receive chemical signals.
What is botulinum?
Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It relaxes the muscle by temporarily blocking the nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles.
The cosmetic effect of botulinum toxin was first documented as early as 1989 and was approved by the FDA in 2002. It is now used regularly by many, both men and women, as it is less intrusive and less artificial than the traditional form.
Which areas can be treated?
- Armpit
- Palms and fingers
- Feet
- Forehead, face including nose
- Head or scalp area
Before treatment:
Although some patients prefer not to use it, numbing cream can be applied to the area 30 minutes before and instead of ice compress is preferred to numb the area. Many patients do not need it either. Please note that for underarm treatments, we will ask for the area to be freshly shaved or the hair cut to 1 cm long.
Sweating Treatment:
The actual procedure takes about 20 to 25 minutes and is relatively simple. A series of small injections of Botulinum toxin are made with a very fine needle.
After treatment:
Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying anything to the treated area for 4 hours to prevent infection and spread of the medicine. It is also recommended not to exercise for 24 hours after the procedure. Special instructions will be given to you by our Clinical Coordinator on the day of treatment.
You will start to see and feel results 1-2 weeks after treatment.
Results will last up to 4-6 months. Your symptoms will gradually return and you will know when the time is right for another treatment.
It is recommended that you have a sweating botox every 6 months to get the best possible results. A plan for regular follow-up treatments can be created for you to maintain the initial result.
